Dr. Sybil L. Hart is a child psychologist and professor emerita of Human Development & Family Studies at Texas Tech University.

Dr. Hart's work on early childhood development and parent–child bonding has been supported by federal funding and published extensively in books and peer-reviewed journals on infants' and children’s psychosocial development, emotional regulation, and child-caregiver relationships.

Her research portfolio includes collaborations with institutions, such as the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she trained under Dr. Tiffany Field, the world’s leading authority on infant massage and touch research. This NIH-funded program is recognized internationally for advancing pediatric health and contributing to major scientific breakthroughs.

As part of Dr. Field’s research team, Dr. Hart co-authored multiple clinical studies examining children’s responses to massage and ways in which nurturing touch can reduce distress, support emotional regulation, and enhance children’s mental and physical well-being. Her work included research with hospitalized children, preschoolers, and children with developmental and behavioral challenges.

One example is a study showing that massage reduced distress for young children undergoing burn treatment in a hospital burn unit. Read study →. She also contributed to research demonstrating improvements in preschoolers’ cognitive and behavioral performance following massage. Read study →.

These scientific foundations informed Dr. Hart’s creation of Lullaby Massage, which transforms decades of laboratory and clinical insight into a simple, intuitive method that is usable across varied contexts and conditions. Her work is unique for bridging developmental science with practical, everyday caregiving, offering a gentle, evidence-informed way to support calm, connection, and emotional well-being in children.
